What to know Swiss watchmaker Maurice Lacroix is known for its strong competency in the development and manufacturing timepieces. Though fairly young, having been founded in 1975, the company has pursued the best of time, creating award-winning watches with new patents, movements, and complications. Their tickers possess a balanced look, at once classic and contemporary, which make them suited for every day and any occasion. “From the design point of view, we call them classic with a twist or, in our language, ‘classic with pepper,’” says Adrien Choux, regional sales director for Asia.

Where to start You can take home the retro-styled Eliros watch for around the price of a good smartphone. The appeal of this watch lies in its simplicity, a calmness that makes it feel more premium than it actually is. The date version is the cleanest, but even moonphase and chronograph iterations communicate ease. Consider, too, the high quality of the finishing: sun-brushed dials, diamond-cut hands, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, and water-resistant stainless steel case. “[The] fine details we craft and design give an overall sensation of high-perceived value,” says Choux.

Entry-level: The Eliros Chronograph

Also get If you have a few more clams to spend, go one rung above and choose from the Aikon collection, the watchmaker’s most popular design. In either a chronograph or date form, these watches appear substantial and assertive. Note the prominent bezel with six “arms” that sort of enclose (or caress) the piece.

At any price Maurice Lacroix’s expertise in execution is applied to their entire line watches, from an entry-level Eliros to the innovative Masterpiece Square Wheel or Masterpiece Mysterious Seconds. “All the watches we produce come from our Manufacture in Saignelegier. This means all the watches, whatever their price level, are developed and produced by the same men and women and therefore receive the same level of care,” says Choux.  “When you buy an Eliros, you actually buy a watch that has received a Masterpiece’s care and attention.”
