We've been following the Nike Air Max 720 for a while now, from the release of its mysterious teaser last September to the official unveiling of the full design a few days ago, and now it's almost here.

But before the February drop, the Swoosh unleashes one final surprise from the hotly anticipated sneaker. Forget for a moment that it has the tallest and most visible bubble—a 38mm Air unit that covers most of the shoe's base—and focus on all the crazy colorways it carries.

It's as if the folks over at Nike had just been on a vacation in outerspace and came back with visions of galaxies, supernovas, and celestial bodies, because the 720s are painted in colors ranging from gooey purples to shining golds, bright hot pinks to the utter finality of black.

But really the sneaker's design is inspired by something closer to home: nature. This is evident in the names of the colorways, such as Northern Lights and Sea Forest, as well as the low environmental footprint of the bubbles. The Air units are made of more than 75 percent manufacturing waste.

Back to color: Courtney Dailey, vice president of color design at Nike, says, “Color needs to strike a balance between amplifying the tech and making its own statement.” We're guessing she's referring to how the bold colors accentuate the undulating pattern of the 720s.
