Onitsuka Tiger Celebrates Its Anniversary With Astro Boy
Onitsuka Tiger just marked its 75th anniversary and to celebrate the occasion, it has launched a global collaboration with Astro Boy, the manga created by the Japanese creator Osamu Tezuka. The pieces in the capsule collection have already been available since December at the Ginza Pop-up Store and in selected Onitsuka Tiger stores in Japan. On a global level, however, the collection will be available in 12 countries starting from mid-January 2024, with the opening of another pop-up Store in Paris, at the department store Samaritaine.
The capsule, characterized by the original logo Onitsuka Tiger and with the Astro Boy design, consists of a wide unisex offering that includes shirts, bomber jackets, skirts, trousers, bags, and hats. Of course, the symbolic model of the brand founded by Kihachiro Onitsuka could not be missing: the now iconic Mexico 66 sneakers, presented in 3 colors (red, gray, and black) come personalized with images and logos of the famous manga. Among the footwear, there's also the Dentigre sneakers and the Puff Boot. To keep consistency, all the items in the collection will have ad hoc packaging: a shopping bag and a box decorated with the writing Astro Boy.
But what do these two icons have in common? Well, for starters, Astro Boy was the first Japanese anime television series, while Onitsuka Tiger, for its part, launched the first sneakers produced in Japan. Both therefore share resourcefulness and foresight, combined with the desire to fuel the vitality and hopes of young people, who are the future of humanity, so that they can continue to dream.
