The Salomon and Y/Project Collab is Here

What do you get when an established outdoor sports brand known for cutting-edge running and hiking shoes collaborates with one of the most creative fashion houses in the world today? You get the striking Salomon Speedcross 3—a new version of the popular Speedcross 3 model from Salomon brought to new heights by the creative visionaries of Y/Project. 

The Speedcross made waves when it was first launched in 2006. Like a classic car model, the shoe underwent major updates over the years, with the Speedcross 3 being introduced in 2011. It quickly became popular with runners and hikers for its comfort and durability even under punishing conditions. It helped that it also looked stylish in addition to being functional.

It made sense then, when Salomon announced that it worked with the avant-garde French fashion brand Y/Project on the newest iteration of the Speedcross 3. This latest update combines the practicality and coolness of the original with the unpredictability and sophistication that can only come from the creatives behind the fashion house.

The new Speedcross 3 is made with opulent fabric for an instantly elevated, premium feel. The scrunched fabric texture is achieved by using an adjustable drawstring to hold the drape in place, creating a pleated aesthetic that reveals Salomon’s Sensifit technology underneath. 

Beyond mere good looks, this new variation of the Speedcross 3 will satisfy serious trail runners and outdoorsy men and women. It features an aggressive grip and agile design, with the familiar Speedcross lug pattern still offering extreme traction across a variety of surfaces. There’s also lightweight protection through a protective band around the base of the foot, keeping it protected at all times.

Fashion insiders will also be glad to know that this Speedcross 3 collab between Salomon and Y/Project was one of the last projects overseen by Glenn Martens, the fashion house’s creative director who stepped down from the post in early September 2024.
