Girard-Perregaux and Saint Laurent Have Revived a Truly Unique '70s Watch
If you were on the hunt for a slightly unorthodox timepiece during the mid-seventies, you may remember the stir that Girard-Perregaux’s Casquette created. Launched in 1976, the digital watch broke the usual conventions of haute horology through its innovative sci-fi design, and a limited run of 8,000 pieces led to it becoming a rare cult favorite. Now, nearly 40 years later, the Casquette is back.
The 2.0 version has been brought into the 21st century with the help of Saint Laurent’s creative director, Anthony Vacarrello. While it still retains its original striking design, the new edit is in black ceramic and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium, and its casing has been ergonomically designed to curve around the wrist for optimum comfort.
In keeping with the era, the 2.0 also has a quartz movement running the LED display system (just like the original, but this movement is of a higher spec), but is now fitted with a chronograph and a playful feature that allows you to display the time in a different location. Sure, not the most needed feature, but it certainly adds that extra bit of quirk into this already unique, historic design.
But you better move quick if you fancy one of your own. With only 100 pieces available exclusively at Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores and on their website, there’s no time to waste.
