Why Did Angie Mead King Set a Porsche on Fire?
Automotive influencer and enthusiast Angie Mead King is no stranger to controversy. Just last year, she made headlines when she captured on video her car bursting into flames while she was driving along the South Luzon Expressway.
This time, she’s back in the news cycle when she deliberately set a Porsche 911 on fire.
Yes, she really did it, but it wasn’t just for show. There was a deeper, more personal reason for the stunt.

It all began back on November 7, 2024, when King’s extensively customized Acura NSX suddenly caught fire while she was cruising along SLEX. She had been vlogging inside the car as white smoke suddenly appeared from the rear. Seconds later, an explosion of flames overwhelmed the vehicle.

Cool, composed, and instinctive, King managed to pull over, collect her valuables, hop out, and escape the inferno intact. Later, however, she found out that lungs took a hit from smoke inhalation. Thankfully, she was safe. The NSX, however, was a total loss.
Speculation pointed to a fuel line failure under boost, possibly exacerbated by recent modifications involving a supercharger and break-in mode and a setup that was not highway-ready.
Almost a year later, she turned crisis into purpose: she introduced the SafetyCar fire suppression system in a video posted on Instagram. In it, King reflected on the incident last year: “I wish I had this before my Acura NSX caught fire…”

That’s when the well-known car enthusiast deliberately lit up a classic but flood-damaged Porsche 911 to demonstrate the features a new SafetyCar system, an innovative, self-activating safety feature engineered to protect vehicles from fire damage.
The SafetyCar fire suppression system utilizes a temperature-sensitive tube, typically installed under the bonnet, above the engine, or in other high-risk areas, which melts in response to elevated heat levels—around 120 degrees Celsius, which then triggers the release of a potent, fire-suppressing gas to quickly snuff out flames. This cost-effective system operates automatically and silently, offering round-the-clock protection for classic, performance, or everyday automobiles without requiring manual activation or bulky extinguishers.

Towards the end of the video, King said the SafetyCar system is now available by order at her shop.
