Choose Your Weapon: BMW Unveils PHEV X5 and Limited Edition 520i

The local distributor of BMW has been very busy these past couple of months with the opening of the country’s first automobile showroom aligned with the Munich-based carmaker’s Retail.Next design language, and the introduction of two new models: the BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport plug-in hybrid and the limited-edition BMW 520i. These activities, particularly the launch of the new nameplates, offer Filipino consumers exciting new options in the luxury SUV and sedan segments, combining performance, efficiency, and advanced technology.

BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport: A Journey Towards Electrification

The BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport marks is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid SUV in the Philippines. Powered by a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six engine paired with an electric motor, the new X5 produces 489 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from zero to 100 kph in just 4.8 seconds.

Equipped with a 25.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, the X5 xDrive50e has an electric-only range between 100 to 118 kilometers on the WLTP cycle, allowing for substantial fuel savings and reduced emissions during daily commutes. The vehicle supports AC charging at a rate of up to 7.4 kW, making it convenient not because it’s the fastest option available, but because it leverages commonly available infrastructure and offers sufficient speed for everyday use.

The X5 xDrive50e M Sport comes standard with the M Sport package, featuring 21-inch M Light alloy wheels, M Sport brakes, and the M high-gloss Shadow Line that enhances its sporty aesthetic. The interior is adorned with Sensafin Decor Stitching upholstery, fine wood trim, and is equipped with the BMW Widescreen Display, integrating a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen running on the latest iDrive Operating System 8.5. Additional amenities include a Harman Kardon surround sound system, four-zone automatic climate control, and advanced driver assistance systems like Parking Assistant Professional and Driving Assistant Professional.

Priced at P6.990 million, the BMW X5 xDrive50e M Sport offers a comprehensive ownership package, including a five-year or 200,000 km comprehensive warranty and an eight-year or 120,000 km battery warranty, whichever comes first.

Limited-Edition BMW 520i: Luxury and Performance Combined

Alongside the X5 xDrive50e, BMW Philippines also unveiled the limited-edition BMW 520i, blending luxury, performance, and value. This sedan is powered by a 2.0-liter BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine, complemented by 48V Mild Hybrid Technology, delivering 208 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. The 520i accelerates from zero to 100 kph in 7.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km/h, balancing dynamic performance with fuel efficiency, achieving a consumption range of 6.4 to 5.7 liters per 100 km (WLTP) and CO2 emissions between 144-130 g/km.

The exterior is available in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Cape York Green, and Oxide Grey and comes with 18-inch light alloy wheels and LED headlights. The interior features Veganza Perforated & Quilted upholstery, ambient lighting, and sport seats with electric adjustment and memory function. The BMW Widescreen Display integrates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen, powered by the intuitive iDrive Operating System 8.5. A Harman Kardon HiFi Loudspeaker system enhances the auditory experience. Safety features include a comprehensive suite of airbags, a crash sensor, cruise control with braking function, and a parking assistant.

The limited-edition BMW 520i is priced at P3.990 million and is available for viewing at BMW dealerships, including Autoallee ETON Centris, Pampanga Premier Cars, RSA Motors Greenhills, and RSA Motors Libis.
