Mercedes-Benz Philippines has unveiled the GLE 400e 4MATIC Plug-in Hybrid at The Fifth at Rockwell. The German luxury automotive brand positions the model as an SUV that balances performance, sustainability, and practicality, signaling how Mercedes-Benz is preparing the Philippine market for a gradual transition from internal combustion engines (ICE) to full electric vehicles (EVs).
The new GLE 400e sits at the intersection of power and sustainable responsibility. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, paired with a powerful electric motor, delivers a combined 252 hp and 400 Nm of torque, ensuring dynamic driving performance. With a pure electric range of over 100 km, considered as best-in-class, it’s an SUV that enables most urban commutes to be completed emission-free, while still retaining the flexibility of gasoline power for long-distance trips.

The 11 kW AC charging system adds practicality, allowing owners to recharge conveniently at home or the office. Paired with Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC all-wheel drive and Dynamic Select drive programs, the GLE provides versatility across road conditions, from congested Metro Manila streets to provincial highways and even light off-road trailing routes.
Externally, the GLE 400e projects athletic prestige with its AMG Line styling, diamond grille with chrome Mercedes-Benz pattern, and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels.
Inside, the SUV underscores Mercedes-Benz’s reputation for craftsmanship and innovation. Highlights include the MBUX multimedia system with Widescreen Cockpit, Augmented Reality Navigation, and an audiophile grade Burmester surround sound system. Upholstery in Artico leather and Microcut microfiber complements the brand’s push toward sustainable materials without sacrificing refinement. Convenience features such as electrically adjustable seats with memory function and generous cargo capacity ensure functionality alongside luxury, especially for long trips.
Safety features include Pre-Safe occupant protection, Active Brake Assist, Active Parking Assist, and a 360-degree camera system. For drivers tackling uneven terrain, the Transparent Bonnet feature provides a virtual view beneath the SUV, an innovation that blends practicality with cutting-edge engineering.
Globally, Mercedes-Benz has made a clear commitment to an all-electric future. However, in the Philippine context, where EV charging infrastructure is still developing, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) serve as a critical bridge technology. The GLE 400e 4MATIC Plug-in Hybrid was launched with an introductory retail price of P5.790 million, positioning it as a competitive option in the luxury SUV segment. Mercedes-Benz also previewed the GLC 350e Plug-in Hybrid, demonstrating the brand’s intent to offer a comprehensive lineup of electrified vehicles in the local market.
From September 26 to 28, the GLE 400 e will be on public display at the Rockwell Powerplant Mall, South Court, alongside other Mercedes-Benz PHEVs. The showcase underscores the company’s ambition to lead in the luxury electrification space while engaging customers directly in their transition journey.
