The festive opening ceremony of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup 2024 happened earlier this month, marking the revival of competitive motorsport and a decade of exhilarating race action in the Philippines. 

Sporting and Super Sporting Class racers battle it out in wet weather

Enthusiasts, racers, and fans gathered at the track to witness the much-anticipated first race of the season. The event commenced with a grand opening ceremony, featuring a parade of some 30 participating drivers, setting the tone for a weekend of high-speed thrills and competitive racing.

Toyota Motor Philippines President Masando Hashimoto also made a surprise announcement that he would be participating in the races. Hashimoto revealed that he would compete under the Novice Class, a new circuit racing class introduced this year. This class gathers winners and top performers from the Autocross Challenge, providing a platform for emerging talent to shine on the circuit.

Joining Hashimoto in the Novice Class were a diverse group of competitors, including social media personalities Lexi Mendiola and Reph Bangsil. The media racers roster featured Jamil Lacuna, Jose Altoveros, Pablo Salapantan, and John Ray San Diego, adding a unique blend of experience and fresh talents to the race. Additionally, sim racer Russel Reyes, known for his exceptional skills in the virtual racing world, made his debut on the actual track, bridging the gap between virtual and real-world racing.

The excitement didn't end with the Novice Class. Seasoned racers under the Promotional, Sporting, and Super Sporting classes returned to the track, bringing with them the promise of adrenaline-pumping action and fierce competition. Alongside these veterans, 2024 newcomers made their debut, eager to make their mark in the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup.
