Beyond the glitz and glamor of international fame, a powerful and often unsung influence shapes the lives and careers of many celebrated personalities: their mothers. From instilling values of hard work and resilience to nurturing their talent and providing unwavering support and encouragement, these Filipino mothers have been instrumental in shaping some of the artists we admire.

1 | Gina Guangco

Mother of Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens is mostly known for her breakout role in High School Musical and openly mentions that much of her success is because of her Filipina mother, Gina Guangco. Gina recognized Vanessa's talent at a young age and, along with her husband Greg Hudgens—a firefighter of Irish, French and Native American descent—actively supported her aspirations in singing, acting, and dancing. After the passing of Vanessa's father, Gina became an even greater source of strength for her. The singer-actress has often expressed pride in her Filipino heritage, which she attributes to her mother. “My mom has always been very supportive, very kind, very grounded and humble. I feel like that really has given me the outlook that I have today, and it’s probably one of the reasons why I am here, because of who I am,” Vanessa said in an interview.
