Even Jimmy Kimmel Thinks We Should Give Jo Koy a Second Chance

For all that's been said about Jo Koy's 2024 Golden Globes hosting job (not the best look, of course), his list of defenders does say a lot about his place among today's best comedians. Stars like Steve Martin, Kevin Heart, and Whoopi Goldberg (and of course our fellow Filipinos) have told the public to give the Filipino-American the benefit of the doubt, it seems. His latest defender certainly thinks so, too. So much so that he thinks Joy deserves another crack at it. Jimmy Kimmel, after all, knows a thing or two about hosting gigs.

Disaster aside, Kimmel, who is looking to host the Academy Awards again this year, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter recently. The late night hose explained that it's "a lot easier for me than it is for Jo Koy."

He further stated: "It’s like if a stranger walks up to you and goes, 'Nice shirt, Tom Selleck.' If it’s one of your friends, you don’t take offense to it, but if it’s somebody you don’t know, you might smack him one. Not that I have any business programming the Golden Globes, but I think they should let Jo Koy host the show next year and give him a shot at doing it over."

Known as quite the critic of the Golden Globes, Kimmel made it known that it would be a "smart move" to give Joy another opportunity, seeing as though he's "learned all the lessons."

The Fil-Am comedian drew flack for some of his flatter material, such as Barbie's boobies or Taylor Swift's hold on the National Football Association. Apart from that, he was criticized for throwing his writers under the bus during the performance. In his defense, Koy said he was only given nine days to prepare instead of the usual five months. He's gone on record saying that he'd love to come back, as well.
