Actor Matteo Guidicelli Posts About Choosing Silence Over Speaking Up
Kapamilya actor Matteo Guidicelli implied that he will choose to keep quiet if his words don’t help the situation.
This is the clear message of the latest post by Matteo, 30, amid the appeal that ABS-CBN stars should speak and stand together for their home network.
Matteo shared a popular Arabian proverb in his Instagram Stories this Wednesday morning, July 22.
It said: "Speak only when you feel that your words are better than your silence."
Matteo is currently the youth ambassador of the government's National Youth Commission (NYC). He is also a Philippine Army reservist with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
Earlier this week, Angel Locsin called on the Kapamilya artists to unite in the midst of the ongoing crisis of ABS-CBN.
In the noise barrage attended by network employees on July 18, Angel, 35, called out fellow actors who avoided standing up for ABS-CBN.
“Mga kapwa kong artista na hindi nagsasalita, tatahimik pa ba kayo? Wala na kayong network!" said Locsin. "Kahit magpa-cute kayo sa Instagram, kahit mag-send kayo ng sad face. Hindi ninyo nadadamayan ang mga katrabaho ninyo na dahilan kung bakit kayo sumikat! Huwag kayong matakot! Wala na kayong proprotektahan na career or image! Nandito na tayo sa panahon na kailangan ninyo magsalita!”
The purpose of the noise barrage was to condemn the House's denial of ABS-CBN’s congressional franchise and to demand the return of ABS-CBN.
Sarah Speaks Out for ABS-CBN
Following Angel's statement, some Kapamilya stars—who reacted sparingly to ABS-CBN's plight—suddenly posted support for their home network.
Among them was singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, 31, Matteo's wife.
In Sarah's Instagram post the next day, July 19, she stressed that she is very grateful to ABS-CBN.
Although Viva Entertainment manages Sarah's career, the Kapamilya network was instrumental in making the singer-actress famous.
“Mahal ko po ang aking ABS-CBN family," said Sarah. "Mahalaga po sa akin ang bawat empleyado na labis na nagdadalamhati ngayon dahil sa kawalan ng trabaho. Nakikiisa po ako sa kanilang apila na muling makabalik sa trabaho upang patuloy na makapagbigay serbisyo para sa kani kanilang mga pamilya at para sa bansa.”
Many suspect that Sarah was one of Angel's targets in her speech. Angel was even criticized by fans who spread #ProtectSarahGAtAllCost.
But Angel immediately denied that she was referring to Sarah and did not even mention her name when speaking at the noise barrage.
Despite this, there are still a few who are unsatisfied with Guidicelli’s response. Some criticized the star for doing the bare minimum to support the network that made him famous.
In 2007, ABS-CBN introduced the young actor to show business in the teenage-comedy sitcom Go Kada Go.
Matteo then played lead characters in the teleseryes Agua Bendita (2010), My Binondo Girl (2011), and Dolce Amore (2016).
He was also seen in the Star Cinema movies Catch Me I’m In Love (2011) and My Cactus Heart (2012).
Ranger G—a video documentary of Matteo's intense training under Scout Ranger—is one of the new releases on ABS-CBN's streaming app iWant.
