This Artist Took Seven Months to Make This Voltes V Action Figure
Just in time for the Philippine TV premiere of Voltes V on GMA Network, an artist and fan debuted a sculpture of the Voltes V robot he made out of cardboard and hot glue.
Artist Sarjit Singh—or Sarjigami on social media—says he’s been a fan of anime, manga, video games and movies since he was a kid and fell in love with Voltes V when he first watched it on TV back when it re-aired on GMA Network in the 1990s. He says his favorite character is Steve Armstrong, who is the leader of Voltes V, because he is a family-oriented guy, to which he can relate.

“I really wanted to buy and have my own robot, but my family couldn’t afford it,” he tells Esquire Philippines.
Singh said his mind was blown when he first saw the teaser trailer of the live action version of Voltes V that GMA posted nearly two years ago.
“I immediately decided that I want to work on a project and sculpt Voltes V: Legacy to show my support for the adaptation,” he says. “It took me seven months to complete this sculpture because I didn't want to miss out on any details.
“It’s been a tremendous challenge but, it’s all worth it in the end.”
After he posted his work on reddit, he’s been inundated with supportive messages praising him for his work. He’s also been getting inquiries for commissioned work, to which he says he’s open to doing as long as both parties have a clear understanding of the work that needs to be done.
Besides Voltes V, Singh, who lives in Pasay City and works in IT support, says he’s also a fan of other anime including Berserk, Naruto, Bleach, 7 Deadly Sins, Attack on Titan, and “everything that Hazao Miyazaki worked on, such as Spirited Away, Ponyo, Howl’s Moving Castle, etc.”
“I also share and create Dioramas and timelapse videos and post them on my YouTube channel,” he adds.
He says he has no plans to sell his creation and will just add it to his personal collection for now. His next project is a sculpture from the popular anime Neon Genesis Evangelion.
“It’s a pending project so need to push ahead to complete it,” he says.
