IV of Spades Return To Their Groovier Selves With ‘Nanaman’
The newly reunited Filipino rock group IV of Spades has come out with another surprise comeback track “Nanaman” that sees them returning to their groovier and jangly guitar-driven selves.
The group last month completed their surprise comeback song “Aura,” which is a more reflective and somber tune.
Vocalist and rhythm guitarist Unique Salonga, bassist Zild Benitez, lead guitarist Blaster Silonga, and drummer Gabriel “Badjao” de Castro IV reunited after pursuing solo careers and projects. The reunion was seven years in the making.
“Nanaman” also is a deadringer for tracks from Unique’s solo stuff with the chugging chorus effect backed rhythm guitars, but here Blaster once again takes center stage with his bright vocals we were accustomed to in the band’s debut album Clapclapclap! Released in 2019.
Blaster previously showcased his vocal chops on the band’s most popular tracks from the album “Come Inside of My Heart.”
The LP was dropped right after frontman Salonga dropped out to pursue a solo record, The three remaining members kept at it for a while as IV of Spades but eventually worked on solo material themselves.
The local rock outfit leans very heavily on their indie rock influence on "Nanaman," which to our ears is giving off sonic elements from The Strokes’ debut album Is this It from 2001. Think similar rhythmic guitar and drum work from “Someday.”
The accompanying music video also shows the band’s love for the Beatles with their signature 60s and 70s inspired outfits and Unique even donning a Rickenbacker guitar, made popular by the late great George Harrison.

Since making their fabled return in July, the four-piece indie alternative rock group once again played live music together on GMA‘s All-Out Sundays, debuting their lush and warm comeback song “Aura.”
“Nanaginip nanaman kahit gising” is apt with how the song has got us daydreaming through groovy guitar leads, smooth bass lines, and funky drum work.
We are psyched to see what else this returning killer, hitmaking machine of a band has up their collective sleeves.
