Neil Gaiman on The Sandman Season 2's Potential Delay
All of Hollywood is on pause as the Writers Guild of America (WGA) holds a nationwide writer’s strike. Late-night talk shows were the first to be affected, and a number of other productions like Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, and American Horror Story have stopped altogether. And it looks like The Sandman could be the next show to join the list.
In response to a fan asking about the strike, Neil Gaiman confirmed on his blog that the show could be potentially delayed: “Whether or not any of Sandman is delayed depends on how long the strike goes.”
The fan Gaiman responded to had also said, “I don't mind waiting for as long as it takes (I’ve been a fan since the 90s, a few more years is nothing). But I’d really hate to see Netflix forge ahead with scab scripts just to keep the numbers up.”
Thankfully, Gaiman stated, quite clearly: “There won’t be scab scripts on The Sandman.”

So despite the writer’s strike halting progress, Gaiman won’t allow anyone to sacrifice quality for the sake of numbers. Prior to the strike, it was believed that season 2 would begin filming this summer, but the schedule could be delayed until further notice.
Like many creatives, Gaiman is in full support of the strike as a member of the WGA himself. The WGA is currently fighting for fairer wages and residuals from the Alliance of Motion Pictures, and the strike is currently in its second week. The last time a writer’s strike occurred was in 2007, which lasted for three months.
As disappointing as it may be to wait longer for The Sandman Season 2, we’re in complete agreement with Gaiman’s fan. The wait will be worth it. And we’d rather get a late season than a shit one.
