The Witcher Season 2 Draws Flak from Animal Rights Group PETA
The immensely popular Netflix series The Witcher has earned the ire of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for using animals on the show.
PETA has accused the showrunners of exploiting live animals instead of resorting to CGI.
In a statement released on December 22, the animal rights group claimed The Witcher has a “monster problem.”
“Netflix’s The Witcher has a monster problem, in that producers apparently monstrously chose to exploit a live lemur and squirrel monkeys, among other animals, instead of using modern and humane computer-generated imagery,” wrote PETA.

The group also encouraged audiences not to watch the popular show and instead support shows that don’t use animals.
“The entertainment industry typically prematurely separates these animals from their mothers and thwarts their instinctual needs to explore, choose mates, raise young, and forage, which is why kind audiences should skip The Witcher and instead toss a coin to the many films and shows that feature only willing human performers.”
Nothing About Roach the Horse
PETA did not explicitly criticize the use of Roach the horse, which is the most prominent live animal used in the series.

In Episode 6 of Season 2, Roach dies. She is mortally wounded when Geralt (Henry Cavill) and Ciri (Freya Allan) are attacked by a powerful monster called chernobog. Roach could be seen with three huge wounds on her belly, and Geralt is forced to put her out of her misery.
