All Your Favorite Studio Ghibli Films Will be Streamed for the First Time Ever on HBO Max

Are you ready for Grave of the Fireflies on demand?
In May 2020, Studio Ghibli’s entire catalog, which includes iconic animated films like Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away, will make its streaming debut on HBO Max. Studio Ghibli films have never been made available for streaming anywhere else due to the studio’s strict belief in the movie-going experience. The studio’s films were previously only available on DVD or Blu-Ray.
However, Studio Ghibli has changed its mind as it signed a deal to exclusively stream its content on WarnerMedia’s upcoming platform, HBO Max.
The beloved works of Hayao Miyazaki that are expected to stream on the platform include Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Castle in the Sky, and The Tale of Princess Kaguya.
Aside from its venture into streaming, Studio Ghibli and its American distributor Gkids are—finally—allowing all its films to be digitally purchased on platforms like Amazon and Apple TV.
Starting December 17, Ghibli fans will be able to purchase the studio’s films in both English and Japanese languages. Like Studio Ghibli’s first ever streaming deal with HBO Max, this will be the first time Studio Ghibli films will be available for purchase online.
They have yet to announce whether HBO Max will be launched in the Philippines, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.
