The Crown Season Six Has Cast Two Prince Williams. Here's Why

Get the casting directors of The Crown a stiff drink: after an “exhaustive” casting process, we finally have our series six Wills ‘n’ Kate… and another William for luck, too.

Giving a slight insight into how prominent the royal couple will be in the sixth outing for Netflix’s semi-fictionalised monarchy drama – said to be the finale of the show – Deadline reports that two actors have been cast as Prince William: Rufus Kampa, who will play William aged 15, and Ed McVey who will play the prince’s later teen years and early adult years.

Kampa, a teenager himself, will be tasked with some heavy duty emotive scenes from the off, as he will be portraying the prince during the death of his mother, Lady Diana, who died in 1997, when William was just 15.

McVey’s storylines will be slightly lighter: he gets the uni years at St Andrews, where William famously met Kate Middleton, as she was known then. No word yet whether they’ll be covering the student fashion show where Kate caught William’s eye in a sheer number (that later sold at auction for £78,000), or their transition into the boozy Boujis scene when they moved back down to London.

Speaking of Kate, she’s also had a face attached to her name for the series. Newcomer Meg Bellamy will be playing the part of the Sloane princess, and like Kampa, she bagged the role after applying for the open auditions when the casting call went out on social media. All three novice actors will surely be hoping for the Emma Corrin effect – the actor went from relative unknown to fashion and Hollywood darling after just a few episodes of the last season of The Crown.

While all three performers are due to start filming shortly, it’s unlikely we’ll get to debate whether their impersonations are accurate for another year or two yet. Series five is due on Netflix in the next few months, featuring Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Dominic West as an older Prince Charles and his IRL son, Senan West, as a younger Prince William.

Showrunner Peter Morgan has previously said that the finale outing for The Crown wouldn’t feature Megan Markle, telling Entertainment Weekly two years ago: ??“Let’s wait 20 years and see what there is to say about Meghan Markle. I don’t know what there is to say about her at the moment. I wouldn’t know and I wouldn’t presume. She’ll only become interesting once we’ve had 20 years to digest who she is and what her impact has been.”

Series five of The Crown will air later this year on Netflix.
