TikTok Is the Worst App to Use Before Trying to Fall Asleep, According to Study
We're all pretty much slaves to our social media feeds these days. Think about it, you start scrolling through it the moment you wake up and continue through late at night trying to end the day on a good note with a hilarious meme. (If you don't... then you're all better than the rest of us.)
Not all social media apps are the same, though. According to a new study, TikTok is the worst out of all of them. Worse than Facebook, Twitter, or what have you. The results were published by Sleep Junkie, a platform that researches all kinds of topics related to sleep, and adds that users take one hour and seven minutes to fall asleep after doing what one does on TikTok.
Researchers surveyed 2,012 adults to come up with the results of the study. Interestingly, Twitter and Facebook were better off than TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. Twitter users spent 18 percent in the REM phase and took 50 minutes to sleep, while Facebook users spent 19.5 percent in the REM phase and took 45 minutes to sleep.
"This past year people have been struggling to sleep more than ever, and with 78 percent of adults admitting to partaking in revenge sleep procrastination, it’s no surprise sleep hygiene has taken a hit," said Sleep Junkie's Dorothy Chambers. "We hope that our research provides more of an insight into some of our worst pre-sleep habits, and maybe encourages members of the public to put down their phone and quit scrolling so they can wake up feeling refreshed and energized."
Should we really blame TikTok alone? Probably not. It's really on us to stop obsessively checking our feed, after all.
