Panda Porn Exists and Pornhub Wants You to Star in One
Pornhub—a well-known adult films portal—doesn't normally get discussed in mainstream media for its acts of social awareness. So, in case you missed it, Pornhub launched its "Panda Style" campaign during last month's celebration of Panda Day.
As everyone knows, the very existence of pandas continues to be threatened. It doesn't help that they're "poor breeders" or that the female is only in heat once a year (for 12 to 25 days).
In an ABC News feature, Zhang Zhihe—director of Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu, China—explained: "The mating time is generally not so long. Sometimes several minutes. The shortest may be 30 seconds."
He added, "If males don't like the female's personality or the females don't like the male's personality, they won't mate. That's the biggest reason why in captivity the mating is difficult."
Apparently, Zhihe and his team have tried practically everything to get pandas to mate. They've actually made pandas watch videos of their fellow pandas in the act of mating. In other words, the animals were made to watch "panda porn."
This is where Pornhub thought they could help. For its "Panda Style" campaign, the adult site asked their fans to get into panda costumes and record a video of themselves in the act of love. Pornhub then asked people to upload their Panda Style videos on the site. To entice people to do this, they promised to donate $100 to panda conservation groups for every panda porn video uploaded and 1 cent for every view.
As Pornhub declares in their animated PSA, "Our goal is to create a quality database of content that zoologists can turn to when they need to get pandas in the mood."
As of April 26, there have been 14 panda porn videos uploaded under Pornhub's Panda Style category. It remains to be seen whether pandas will actually find the said videos appealing or if the videos will inadvertently make them want to be celibate for life.
