RSA Hands Hidilyn Diaz a P10 Million Check—and 2 Small Businesses

Diaz is now a small business owner.

In fulfillment of his pre-Olympics promises, San Miguel Corporation president Ramon Ang turned over a P10 million check to Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz—as well as two small businesses.

Diaz has been gifted with plenty over the last few weeks: millions of pesos in cash prizes, new cars, new houses, new apartment, lifetime supplies of everything from milk tea to lipstick. But this might just be her first time to get a business, much less two, as a gift.

RSA gifted Diaz with two Chick N’ Juicy chicken rotisserie franchise outlets from San Miguel Foods, Inc. These small businesses could potentially earn money in the future, ensuring a stable source of livelihood for Diaz and her family. Now a business owner and franchisee, Hidilyn’s first store will be located in Eastwood City and another will be set up in her home province of Zamboanga near her family.

Fun fact: the weightlifter also happens to be a business management major at De La Salle College of St. Benilde, so the athlete can finally flex everything she's learned in class as a brand new small business owner.

RSA reflected on his time with Diaz in a brief Facebook post, saying “It’s very inspiring to see so much passion and humility in her and to know that in spite of what she has already achieved she continues to work towards more ambitious goals.”

With approximately P56.5 million in cash winnings, Hidilyn’s net worth is growing. She’s also got four new properties in her portfolio (from Megaworld, Olympic Committee president Abraham Tolentino, Century Properties, and the Office of the President). She’s also received a shiny new Kia car and a 13-seater van from Foton.

Add two small businesses into the mix, and Diaz now has plenty of rewards to manage. A financial advisor might be necessary at this point as she's still only about halfway through all the prize pledges coming her way.
