Where are Filipinos Spending the Chinese New Year Holiday?
It looks like more Filipinos are celebrating the Chinese New Year overseas this week.
Agoda, an online booking platform for accommodations, flights, and airport transfers, revealed in a study of their internal data that six international locations are among the top 10 destinations Filipinos are traveling to this week.
“Travels during the Chinese New Year tend to be reserved for family bonding and indulging in food and leisure activities that the whole family can enjoy,” Agoda wrote in its report. “Thus, it’s not surprising that Filipinos have chosen gourmet and retail paradises among their top 10 destinations.”
Number one on the list is Hong Kong, followed by Tokyo. The other international destinations included are Taipei (5th) and Bangkok (8th). Two more cities in Japan also made the list: Sapporo (7th) and Osaka (10).
Meanwhile, local destinations included in the top 10 are some of the country’s top tourist destinations. While more opted to have a staycation in Manila (3rd), a lot are also choosing to spend their Lunar New Year on the pristine beaches of Cebu (4th), Boracay (6th), and Palawan (9th).
Apart from the specific preferences of Filipinos, the online booking platform also reviewed their internal data on Asians’ top 10 destinations of choice for the Lunar New Year. Here’s a quick overview:
1. Bangkok, Thailand
2. Tokyo, Japan
3. Taipei, Taiwan
4. Hong Kong
5. Kaohsiung, Taiwan
6. Osaka, Japan
7. Taichung, Taiwan
8. Sapporo, Japan
9. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
"The Lunar New Year is truly a golden opportunity for new beginnings, whether you’re looking to unite the extended family in a rare annual gathering overseas or escape from inquisitive relatives by traveling solo,” Agoda said.
Agoda is a Singapore-based online travel booking platform established in 2005. It is now available in 53 cities across more than 30 countries.
