Direct Manila-Paris Flight Eyed Before End of 2024: CAAP

Details will be announced 'in a few weeks,' according to Transport Secretary Jaime Bautista.

Direct flights from Manila to Paris may happen soon, according to Department of Transportation Jaime Bautista, after formalizing a renewed partnership in aviation between the Philippines and France in Makati City on Tuesday, September 3.

According to reports, the transport agency is expected to announce details "in a few weeks."

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) General Captain Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo also revealed that they had already approved Air France, France's flag carrier, to mount the direct flight.

"Frequency is three to four times weekly. [CAAP and MIAA] already approved it, but of course, I couldn’t speak on behalf of the Civil Aeronautics Board," the director told the Philippine News Agency.

CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo and Director for Asia-Pacific Cooperation Thibaut Lallemand signed a supplement to the Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Philippines and France last September 3. The signing was witnessed by the Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and the French Ambassador, Marie Fontanel.

Tamayo signed a supplement to the Technical Cooperation Agreement, initially formalized as a Memorandum of Understanding between CAAP and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, France, in 2018. Damien Cazé, Director General of DGAC France, was represented by its Director for Asia-Pacific Cooperation Thibaut Lallemand. The signing was witnessed by Bautista and French Ambassador Marie Fontanel, who hosted the event at her residence.

"The said agreement aims to reinforce CAAP's safety oversight functions to meet the growing demand for aviation in the Philippines and the wider Asia-Pacific region. With the continued support of French DGAC and Airbus, the cooperation will focus on developing an audit and inspection program to provide means that will continuously enhance the safety performance of Philippine air operators and approved maintenance organizations," CAAP said in a statement.
