Manila Is Named One of the Best Cities in the World for 2022
After TIME named Boracay one of the greatest places in the world for 2022, the Philippines gets more global recognition. Manila has been called one of the 53 best cities in the world, according to media corporation Time Out. The capital placed at the 34th spot, just ahead of Athens, Greece.
"The pandemic brought the longest lockdowns, cruel liquor bans and the demand for spacewear-like face shields, but a strong vaccine drive has helped this megacity stay afloat," the report wrote. "Manila was voted the third most resilient in this year’s survey, and not a single respondent described the city as rude – instead, it was admired by many for the welcoming and infectious smiles of its people."
It also acknowledged how epic traffic jams and overpopulation have given the city a bad rap. But did stress that the "legacy of Chinese, Spanish and American influences" makes Manila an underrated hub for art and culture. The city had also received a 78-percent positivity rating for its nightlife and party scenes.

Time Out had surveyed roughly 20,000 users for the list, asking about each cities' post-pandemic state. Some of the aspects that were discussed were cities' cultural aspects, restaurants and nightlife. The index had looked into key factors like community spirit, resilience, walkability, good public transport and safety, and sustainability to decide.
Edinburgh and Glasgow in Scotland, Chicago in the United States, Colombia's MedellÃn, and Amsterdam in the Netherlands rounded out the top five.
