Hong Kong continues to grow in its post-pandemic tourism recovery. In March 2024, the country saw a 39 percent increase in visitor arrivals versus the same period last year and a 68 percent recovery versus the same month in 2018, according to a report by the Hong Kong Tourism Board. This bodes well for their hotel industry, which was at 86 percent occupancy rate, just six percent away from pre-COVID numbers.
As Hong Kong's over 84,000 rooms in over 300 hotels continue to fill up, travelers are keen to find the right one that suits their needs when they visit. It's a good thing that there's always something for everyone, including a five-star hotel that's far away from the frenetic business and retail scene in Central, but still close enough to transport and commercial hubs: Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel.
With its gold-themed facade and elegant exterior, Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel stands as a beacon of modern luxury and peaceful retreat on the tranquil Lantau Island. It opened in December 2020 and has quickly become a favored destination for both business and leisure travelers.

The hotel's strategic location in a residential community and commercial hub offers advantages to guests. It's only 10 minutes by taxi and about 30 minutes away by public transport. Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel also offers free shuttle rides to Tung Chung Station, which is connected to the Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Tuen Ma Line, and Island Line of the country's expansive MTR system. For some quick shopping, Tung Chung Station is right in front of Citygate Outlets. You can also walk from the hotel to Citygate, as they're only 1.5 kilometers apart. Tung Chung Station is also a transfer point to the Ngong Ping Cable Car, a direct route to the famous tourist spot that is The Big Buddha.

Aside from its seamless connection to various parts of the region, Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel's surrounding area is rich with lush landscapes and scenic mountains and sea vistas.
Ocean-View Room with King-Sized Bed

This feature takes center stage as soon as you enter one of the hotel's 218 rooms, each boasting full-length windows that frame the breathtaking views of Lantau Island’s natural beauty. Every corner of the room allows for this perspective, even from the toilet of the bathroom, thanks to the shower area's glass walls.
Other Facilities and Amenities at Sheraton Tung Chung
Dining at the Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel is an experience in itself. The hotel houses several dining venues, including the Sunset Grill, a rooftop paradise that specializes in seafood and grilled meats, and YUE, a modern Chinese eatery offering a contemporary twist on traditional Cantonese dishes. The Lobby Lounge serves as a vibrant gathering spot where guests can enjoy high tea or evening cocktails.

Cafe Lantau

But its claim to fame is Cafe Lantau, an all-day dining and buffet restaurant that samples many international delicacies, from fresh seafood to grilled meat, from a live noodle station to an array of ice cream and other kinds of desserts. Don't skip the sashimi station, where different kinds of fresh salmon will be sliced in front of you.

For those looking to stay active, the hotel features an extensive gym equipped with the latest fitness technology. The inviting pool deck is another highlight, providing a perfect place to relax and soak in the sun, especially since there are not a lot of guests trying out this facility. The poolside and gym's locker and shower room are fully equipped with a sauna bath, plenty of shower stalls, secure lockers, a dresser with a hair blower, and even a swimsuit dryer.
Hong Kong Hotels' Sustainability Practices
It should also be noted that Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung has let go of all the usual items in plastic packaging: disposable water bottles, small bottles of toiletries, plastic combs and toothbrushes, and so on. This move is aligned with the Hong Kong government's implementation of a ban on disposable plastic products across restaurants and businesses. The bill, which was passed in October 2023, took effect on April 22, 2024. Offenders face fines of up to HKD 100,000.
Instead of plastic water bottles that are replaced daily, each of the hotel rooms has a portable water purifier right beside the capsule coffee maker.

Instead of plastic-packaged toiletries, the bathroom boasts a complete set of bath and body products by Gilchrist & Soames. The lotion and hand soap dispenser are placed near the lavatory, while the dispenser for body wash, shampoo, and conditioner are inside the shower.

"While hotels are still allowed to provide such disposable plastic products at a charge, it is ever encouraging to see that the hotel sector seeks not only to comply with the regulation, but has been proactive in sourcing non-plastic alternatives so as to provide a green and sustainable hospitality experience for tourists. Because of the hotel sector’s green enthusiasm, product suppliers are coming up with more non-plastic options at increasingly lower price levels," said Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin Wan in a statement released by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce in April.
