Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot Responds to the Henry Cavill Pay Gap Controversy
Gal Gadot has responded to the controversy surrounding her pay, after her salary for starring in Wonder Woman was compared to Henry Cavill's for Man of Steel.
Many people on social media condemned the apparent gap in pay when unconfirmed figures suggested that Henry's salary for his first solo Superman movie was reportedly much higher compared to Gal's $300,000 for this year's Wonder Woman.
It later emerged that the numbers weren't what they seemed and there was a bit of a misunderstanding. Originally a reporter tweeted that Henry's salary for Man of Steel was $14 million but then it was revealed that the number came from a questionable source.
TMZ approached Gal to get her take on the controversy. The actress did not say much, but showed appreciation for the support that she received.
"A lot of people batted for you, saying you needed to be paid more," the reporter asked. "What do you think?"
"I'm grateful and happy," she replied.
While this incident might not be an example of the gap, pay disparity is a real problem in Hollywood, and the outrage surrounding what Gal was thought to be earning in comparison to Henry was successful in highlighting and reminding people of this long-running issue.
Gal will be negotiating her salary for her future involvement in the DCEU and given the huge success Wonder Woman has been, she can probably expect a substantial bump.
