Angkas Gears Up for Four-Wheeler Service with Angcars

Set to enter the four-wheeler market, motorcycle-hailing service Angkas is on track to expand its operations this year. The launch of its newest venture, Angcars, is now in the works after getting the green light from authorities.

“We have gotten our approval already, so [it’s] just a matter of time,” George Royeca, chief executive of Angkas, told an interview with reporters. “We are in preparation right now. Hopefully, over the next few months, we will see Angcars on the road.”

For starters, Angcars will operate in Metro Manila, as it determines the fleet size or number of vehicles needed for the service. While this alone is expected to boost its ridership, Angkas is still seeking approval to expand its car business outside the metro. The ride-hailing service currently serves passengers in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro with its motorcycle taxis.

"I think there is an opportunity for us to expand the Angkas system where it is really needed, especially in provincial cities," said Royeca. "We hope to get their approval soon. If we could expand to as many cities as possible, that would be great."

What to expect from Angcars

Passengers will be able to choose between Angcars Economy and Angcars Plus once the four-wheeler service is up and running. Angcars Economy offers four-seater vehicles, while Angcars Plus is for those who prefer six-seaters. 

“Angcars is designed to be an advanced ride-hailing app that seamlessly blends affordability with user-friendly navigation,” Royeca earlier said.

It’s still unclear whether Angcars will be launched as a stand-alone app. Recently, Angkas expanded its services with Angkas Padala and Angkas Health, but only Angkas Padala was made available via its existing app. Angkas Health, on the other hand, can be accessed through a separate website.
