After Japan and Spain, Injap Sia's Hotel101 Sets Sights on the USA

The hotel unit of Doubledragon Properties has secured a prime piece of real estate in Los Angeles, California.

Edgar Injap Sia’s Doubledragon Properties hospitality unit is expanding to the U.S.A. 

Hotel101 Global Pte. Ltd announced that it will open a new branch in Los Angeles, California after securing a 3,647 square meter prime corner lot property in the city.

According to a news release, the Hotel101-Los Angeles site is in the Westlake North District of Los Angeles. It’s about five minutes to Downtown L.A., Dodger Stadium and the Crypto.com Arena (formerly Staples Center). The location is also about a 10-minute drive to Hollywood and about 20 minutes to Beverly Hills. Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is about a 20-minute drive away.

Injap Sia's Hotel 101 Is Expanding to Spain

After entitlements and zoning approval, the hotel group’s first location in the United States is planned to have 622 units and will feature facilities such as an all-day dining restaurant (concessionaire-operated), a business Center, swimming pool, fitness gym, and a commercial space for a 24-hour convenience store. The hotel will also have a large convention center and function rooms with views of the Los Angeles skyline.

Hotel101 first announced overseas expansion to Niseko, a popular Japanese ski town, in 2022. Earlier this year, the company said it is acquiring prime commercial land in Madrid, Spain to open its second overseas branch. That would make the Los Angeles branch its third international unit. 

The company said it expects to generate revenues of about $183 Million (about P10.3 billion in the L.A. property.

There are currently eight Hotel101 planned and existing locations around the Philippines, including in Manila, Bohol, Libis (Quezon City), Fort Bonifacio, Boracay, Cebu Mactan, Davao City, and Palawan.

Sia is best-known as the founder of fast-food chain Mang Inasal, which he sold fully to the Jollibee Group in 2016. Sia then partnered with Jollibee Foods Corp founder and chairman Tony Tancaktiong to establish property company Doubledragon Corp, which owns the Hotel101 brand as well as the CityMall chain of mid-size shopping malls, MerryMart supermarkets, and others.
