Japan Will Build the Railway Project From Tutuban to Malolos

Japan’s Hitachi Rail has won the bidding for the contract for the Philippines’ North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project, a big-ticket infrastructure project worth  P13.13 billion. The Department of Transportation issued the notice of award to Hitachi Rail on November 8. NSCR, a 160-kilometer rail project, and the Philippines’ most ambitious rail project in history, is being financed in part by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank.

How long is the distance between Tutuban Station and Malolos Station?

The project awarded to Hitachi Rail will span Tutuban in Manila to Malolos in Bulacan, which forms the northern part of the 163-kilometer NSCR from Calamba, Laguna, to Clark in Pampanga. 

According to the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), the contract for the Tutuban-Malolos rail section covers 38 kilometers and is worth P149.13 billion. Once finished, it will have the capacity to transport over 200,000 passengers every day. A single trip from Malolos, Bulacan to the Tutuban Station in Manila will take less than 40 minutes. The project is expected to be completed by 2024, according to a Business World report.
