The Lapulapu Monument Design Competition Has a P300,000 Cash Prize

It is in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan.

In 2021, the Philippines will be celebrating 500th anniversary of the Victory at Mactan. To commemorate the event, the National Quincentennial Committee (NQC) has called for submissions of designs for the new Lapulapu National Monument, which will be enshrined at the atrium of the Lapulapu Memorial Shrine and Museum at Lapu-Lapu City.

“The new Lapulapu National Monument will be erected as part of the 2021 Quincentennial Commemorations in the Philippines and is in keeping with the wishes of the Cebuano people to retain the currently existing Lapulapu Monument in its current place as it has already been sanctified by time,” said the NQC in a statement.

The proposed monument is envisioned to become a landmark similar to the Rizal National Monument in Manila and the Bonifacio National Monument in Caloocan.

Lapulapu National Monument Design Requirements

According to the NQC, the design for the Lapulapu National Monument should have a classical style and 360-degree artistic view. The main character of the monument should be Lapulapu with some warriors integrated in the monument. A pedestal should also complement the monument. Most important, the design should be based on historical, archeological, and cultural research.

The winning designer will be awarded P300,000. Only one design must be submitted per person. The deadline for submission of entries is on January 6, 2020.
