How to Schedule a Saliva RT-PCR Test
The Philippine National Red Cross has launched the saliva RT-PCR testing for COVID-19. Compared to nasal swabbing, it is a painless and non-invasive way of collecting samples.
I have had people telling me how the nasal swabs left them in tears because of its invasive procedure. Saliva testing is an ideal alternative to the nasal swab especially if your nose is particularly sensitive. Nasal swabs can cause nosebleeds and irritation if done wrong.
Saliva RT-PCR Testing, the New Gold Standard
The saliva RT-PCR test is now being recognized as the new gold standard in detecting active infections of COVID-19. It is used in Germany, Japan, South Korea, U.S., and the Philippines.
Saliva RT-PCR swab test is basically collecting one milliliter of your saliva on site for testing. There is no more need for cotton swabs to enter your nose.
Restrictions on Saliva Testing
Before you can get tested, you must follow some rules for saliva RT-PCR testing.
- Do not drink or eat 30 minutes before the test.
- Do not wear lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss, or lip tint.
- Do not smoke.
- The saliva sample must be at least one milliliter and has no discoloration.
How to Get Saliva RT-PCR Test
You can book a schedule online for a saliva test. Here's how:
1| Select Your Testing Location and Schedule
Select the location of your saliva test by visiting this website or looking at the options below. Then, select the date and time of your saliva test. Each slot is 10 minutes long. Click “Book Now” to add the appointment to your Cart.
2| Checkout and Pay
Once you’re ready, click on your Cart (upper right side of the screen) and view your items.
Click on “Checkout” to proceed. Review your order details and input your personal details, then choose a payment method. The easiest checkout based on my experience is via GCash.
3| Receive an E-mail Confirmation
Check your e-mail for the order confirmation, which will include the date, time, and location of your Swab Test appointment. You will also be sent a link to the e-CIF Form in the payment confirmation e-mail.
Fill out the e-CIF Form before your appointment. This must be completed before the swab test is conducted.
4| Arrive Early at Testing Site
Be at the testing site 15 minutes before the scheduled time to give time for verification and security check. Please make sure to have your proof of payment on hand as they may ask for this on-site. Make sure to wear a face mask and face shield. Bring a pen.
Before submitting the sample, be sure that it is at least one milliliter and has no discoloration.
