5 Philippine Universities Make QS World University Rankings 2024, With UP in the Lead

It’s that time of the year again. After the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2023 listed Ateneo de Manila University as the highest-ranking institution from the Philippines, QS World University Rankings 2024 has just ranked the University of the Philippines as the top university in the country.

The national university ranked 404th overall in the world rankings, up eight positions from its 412th ranking last year. This puts UP in the top 27 percent of ranked universities worldwide. Four other Philippine universities made the list, namely Ateneo de Manila University at 563rd place, De La Salle University in the 681-690 bracket, University of Santo Tomas in the 801-850 bracket, and University of San Carlos in the 1201-1400 bracket.

A total of 1,5000 institutions from 104 locations made this year’s QS World University Rankings, which ranks universities based on employer reputation, employment outcomes, academic reputation, sustainability, faculty-student ratio, international research network, citations per faculty, international faculty, and international students.

UP trumped all other Philippine universities in five key metrics: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty-student ratio, international research network, and sustainability.

“Employer reputation is our strongest indicator this year,” the UP Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs said. “Employer reputation evaluates the perceptions of global employers, through a survey, on which institutions are providing the most job-ready graduates”

Meanwhile, DLSU led Philippine universities in citations per faculty, Ateneo in employment outcomes, and UST in international faculty and international students.

According to the QS World University Rankings 2024, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology maintains its title as the best university in the world, followed by the University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, Harvard University, Stanford University, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, National University of Singapore, University College London, and University of California, Berkley.
