The Unusual Contents of Vico Sotto’s Care Packages Have People in Disbelief

Vico Sotto is an unusual mayor, and unusual things can be expected to come from him. The contents of his relief packages are just some of them.

People on social media are having good fun inspecting the contents of Sotto’s COVID-19 care packages, which come with some surprising items, including tuyo, vitamin C, and Pepero. Pasig has been sending relief packages regularly since the start of the quarantine in March to areas that have a high concentration of COVID-19 cases.

Relief packages distributed by local governments usually contain basic necessities such as rice, eggs, and canned goods, which typically cost P500 per package. But a single box of Pepero has a retail price of P130

Sotto retweeted the Twitter post, explaining he thought of giving people more than the usual basic necessities so they would no longer leave their homes to buy them.

In the comments section of Sotto’s tweet, someone asked why Pasig seems to have a lot of cash.

In December 2019, Sotto revealed Pasig was able to curb corruption by making public biddings more transparent. He also significantly lowered the cap on bids without sacrificing quality of products and services. In his first five months in office, Pasig was able to save P150 million because of lower bid prices.

Then, in July 2020, Sotto reported Pasig was able to save P414 million because of transparency and lower pricing in bids.

The following are some reactions to Sotto’s care packages.
