H&M Is Collaborating With Simone Rocha in 2021

Continuing its series of acclaimed collaborations, H&M partners with Simone Rocha this year.

Can you believe it? You’ve been blessed with 15 years of designer collaborations spearheaded by H&M, from Karl Lagerfeld in 2004 to Commes des Garcons in 2008, Versace in 2011 to Giambattista Valli in 2019. The Swedish fashion company has been instrumental in popularizing the designer collab model, a win-win situation where luxury labels capture a wider audience and you, a mere mortal, reach up and get a piece of the Big Name at a democratic price.

Last year, reflecting the strange mood of the times, H&M chose to shelf its scheduled collab, opting instead for smaller partnerships with, among others, British streetwear brand Kangol, Lebanese designer Sandra Mansour, and Australian sportswear label PE Nation. In 2021, the mood is, yes, still strange (week one was rough) and yet, we dream and H&M, which like many retailers suffered great losses because of the pandemic, soldiers on. The clothing giant is set to drop its collaboration with Irish designer Simone Rocha on March 11.

The Simone Rocha x H&M collection marks the 19th set in H&M’s designer collaboration series, as well as the first time the Swedish brand partners with an Irish designer. Identity or a “personal inter-ethnic heritage” is really the through line in the creations of the Dublin-born, London-based Rocha, so expect to see “glimmers of Tudor courtiers,” tartan, and fabrics made especially for the collection. To be exact, prepare your carts for, apart from the designer’s signature womenswear, pieces for men and children. This full wardrobe of hard-working pieces, from trench coats to tulle dresses, T-shirts to shirting, has been made for the entire family, which is also a first for the designer.

Rocha is known for her romantic designs, which, as befits 2021, have a touch of the eerie and strange. It would be interesting to see how the designer translates her most famous creations for men. “Being able to do something and share it with so many people across all ages, all sizes, all nationalities—it was really important for me that the collection brought femininity, strength, and modernity.” she shares. Mark your calendars.
