If you’re not a tennis fan, a Roger Federer groupie, or a font fanatic (some people swear by Comic Sans), then you might not have heard of the story of the RF logo.

We won’t call it a drama. The monogram was simply sidelined by matters of business. When the tennis champ switched allegiance from Nike to Uniqlo in 2018, he wasn’t able to take the RF logo with him. And so, for two years, fans were left with no way to get those sweet RF caps and jackets that symbolized the amazing skill of the Swiss player with 20 Grand Slam titles under his belt.

Fast forward to December 1 and Federer appears on Twitter with a big grin on his face. “That’s right, the RF cap is back,” he says to his 12.7 million followers, as he loads eight of the freshest headwear into a white Uniqlo box. It seems things have worked out, after all, with Federer and the Japanese retailer now able to use the logo.

As for the caps, themselves, Uniqlo makes sure to mention how the bevy of colors, from the pink (our pick) to the aqua, the blue-green to the bright white, was “carefully chosen in consultation with Roger.” A thick and juicy RF logo is embroidered prominently on the front of the cap, while “GO ROGER,” conveyed via clever letter play, is placed at its back.

“This hat has meant so much to me and to my fans over the years. It has given us a way to visibly connect, and I have appreciated the opportunity to thrive off this supportive energy,” says Federer, who notes how the cap underwent “extensive fine-tuning” to achieve perfection.

In all, this is a solid cap—a cool cap, in fact, since it qualifies as a dad cap. It’s perfect for tennis lovers, Federer fans, font fanatics, and, really, anyone with a head (bonus points if that head is attached to someone name Randy Fowler or Rihanna Fabiola). The caps arrive tomorrow, December 8, just in time for gift giving.

And just in case you are a tennis fan and a Federer fanatic (like we are), take this as a good omen. According to his coach, Ivan Ljubicic, the champ “is very motivated, he is incredible,” and is raring to return to the Australian Open in February 2021. Wear the pink when he does.

The RF caps will be released on December 8 on uniqlo.com/ph and the Uniqlo Manila Global Flagship Store.
