Margarita Forés Knighted and Awarded One of Italy's Highest Honors

The honorific title is given to those who have promoted friendships and collaborations between Italy and other countries.

Margarita Forés has another feather in her cap. On Tuesday night, she was knighted by the Italian government as a Cavaliere dell'Ordine della Stella d'Italia (Order of the Star of Italy).

Forés shared the honor on Instagram and took the time to thank Italian Ambassador Giorgio Guglielmino, as well as her mother whom she credits for her love of Italian food and culture. She said, “Thank you to my mom Maria Forés for taking me to Italy when I was 10. A love affair started and has not ended forever!

Originally established in 1947 and reformed in 2011, the honorific title is given to “Italians and foreigners who have acquired particular merits in the promotion of friendships and collaboration between Italy and other countries.” Others who have received the same honor include Erol Gelenbe, Silvia Damiani, and many others.

In 2016, the chef and restaurateur was named Asia’s Best Female Chef by internationally recognized Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
