6 Things You Need to Know About the 6th Generation Honda CR-V

You’ll know that the all-new CR-V is an important model in the Honda lineup because almost everyone in the local motoring industry was in attendance at the launch last September. Besides the media, dealers and Honda car club members, Honda’s Large Project Leaders from both the all-new CR-V and Honda’s CONNECT technology flew in for the occasion.

First introduced in 1995, the all-new Honda CR-V, also known as the “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle,” has since then sold over 13 million units worldwide. It was launched in the Philippines in 1997 and has reportedly sold over 70,000 units.

Part of the Japanese carmaker’s long-term goal of achieving carbon neutrality for all its products and corporate activities by 2050 is to develop the 6th-generation Honda CR-V and use it as a major step in the company’s electrification journey.

Here are six things you should know about the sixth generation Honda CR-V.

1| It’s a ‘halo’ model

Honda’s first-ever CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT is considered a halo model in terms of advanced safety and driving technologies. It is the first model to use the e:HEV full hybrid system as a big step in sustainable mobility solutions towards zero environmental impact. The e:HEV technology uses all of Honda's gasoline-powered engine and electrification technologies to provide an low fuel consumption. It has two electric motors: the Traction Motor and the Generator Motor mated to a new four-cylinder, 2.0-liter Direct Injection Atkinson Cycle engine.

It is rated at 148 PS and 183 Nm of torque, and the electric motors put out 184PS and 335Nm of torque. While the motor operates throughout the low- to high-speed range, e:HEV relies on the gasoline engine alone for high-speed cruising. The e:HEV achieves a unique combination of environmental performance and driving pleasure that could not be achieved with an engine-only system. 

2| It’s the most powerful gas-powered CR-V ever

Another first is the use of a turbocharged gasoline-powered engine in two of its variants. The all-new CR-V is available in the 1.5 V Turbo CVT and 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD variants that uses the 1.5-liter Direct Injection DOHC VTEC engine that blends between power and fuel economy. Its new high-efficiency, high-response turbocharger and enhanced exhaust system maintains peak power over a wider power band and is rated at 190 PS and 240 Nm of torque, which is the most powerful gas-powered CR-V ever.

3| The full hybrid system can switch between three operating modes

The e:HEV full hybrid system can switch operating modes to suit various driving situations: the EV Drive mode that lets the vehicle run solely on battery power, the Hybrid Drive mode that shifts power between the electric motor and the engine, and the Engine Drive Mode. It also has a Drive Mode Switch, with the Sport Mode, Normal Mode and Econ Mode. It has a self-charging system that is achieved through a regenerative braking system and traction motor, in which the system harvests energy from braking and deceleration and recovers friction losses that would otherwise be unused, extending the car’s electric power range and further optimize fuel economy.  

The e:HEV has a fuel efficiency of 29.4 kilometers per liter in urban driving condition in hybrid mode while it has a fuel efficiency of 16.4 kilometers per liter on full gasoline engine power. Honda says that these results are based on the United Nations Regulation 101 uniform provisions concerning the measurement of fuel consumption of vehicles with positive-ignition and compression-ignition engines and electric power trains.

4| It comes equipped with advanced safety and driving technologies

All of the new Honda CR-V variants are equipped with the latest generation of Honda SENSING driver-assistive technology, which has a new front sensor camera and radar system. This new and improved system ensures better detection of vehicles and pedestrians, avoiding possible collision.

5| It’s the first generation of the CR-V to have the RS badge

The new Honda CR-V has a more aggressive looking RS-exclusive grille design that distinguishes it from the rest. It also has a distinctive piano black finish on its side mirrors, door sash, and sportier 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof exclusive to this variant. The RS badge is the only variant also to come in two rows. The V and VX Turbo AWD has three row seating.

6| It comes with an unbeatable warranty

The CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT comes with an 8-year or 200,000 kilometer battery warranty (whichever comes first) for added peace of mind for customers, especially for first-time hybrid vehicle owners. The all-new CR-V is available in five colors and priced as follows: 2.0 RS e:HEV E-CVT is at P2.59 million; 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD at P2.28 million; and 1.5 V Turbo CVT at P2.1 million.
