More Lamborghinis Were Sold in 2021 Than in Any Other Year in History
One of the world’s most luxurious car brands has reported an all-time record in sales in 2021 despite the challenges brought on by the pandemic. Automobili Lamborghini said that it had delivered a total of 8,405 cars worldwide last year, up 13 percent from 2020 and the best year ever in the company’s history.
This follows a similar announcement from another ultra-luxury brand—Rolls-Royce—which also reported record sales last year.
The Italian supercar maker said all its three key macro markets—America, Asia Pacific, and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa)—enjoyed an increase in sales volume between 12 percent to 14 percent. EMEA continued to be Its biggest market, with 39 percent of sales, followed by North and South America at 35 percent, and Asia Pacific at 27 percent.
On a country level, the U.S. market took 30 percent share with 2,472 units, while China was at second place with a huge 55-percent increase in sales at 935 units, enough to capture 12 percent share of total sales. The rest of the top five countries are composed of Germany, U.K., and Lamborghini’s home market of Italy. The performance of Lamborghini Manila closely aligns to the overall global market figures as well.
The brand’s high performance SUV model the Urus was the bestselling model, with 5,021 units delivered last year, followed by the Huracán, which saw a strong increase in sales—up to 2,586 brought about by the introduction of the “ultimate” Huracán STO variant. Last year also saw the V12 engine powered 798 Aventador models delivered throughout all its markets.
“This record has provided confirmation of four factors for us: the solidity of our strategic plan, our brand’s outstanding international reputation, the competence and passion of our people and the exceptional professionalism and dynamism shown by our 173 dealers in 52 markets, who have continued to invest alongside us at a challenging, uncertain time,” Stephan Winkelmann, chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini said. “We are stronger than ever as we prepare to embark on a period of profound transformation and move towards an even more sustainable future. In 2022 we’ll be doing our utmost to consolidate the current results and get ready for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023 onwards.”
Despite the pandemic and market restrictions, Lamborghini managed to launch at least three new products in the market: the racetrack-inspired and road-legal Huracán STO - Super Trofeo Omologata; the Aventador Ultimae, which was the final series of the Aventador model; and the Countach LPI 800-4, that celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Countach.
If the numbers are any indication, 2022 looks set to be an even more auspicious year for Lamborghini. Company officials say they already have enough orders to cover most of its entire production for the year. The brand also intends to introduce at least four new products this year and will be ready to unveil its first hybrid production model in 2023 and a fully electrified range by the end of 2024.
