Italian Motorsports Design Company Momo Made a Filipino-Themed Steering Wheel

Momo is an Italian design company well-known in the motorsports world for making automobile parts and accessories such as wheels, tires, steering wheels, seats, gear sticks, and others. It also has a clothing line with products like racing suits, gloves, and shoes.

Recently, the six-decade-old brand introduced a Filipino-themed limited-edition steering wheel in partnership with its local distributor Waido Philippines. This is the first time the Italian company has collaborated on a design inspired by Filipino culture.

This limited-edition wheel integrates national symbolism into every detail, including a sun motif engraved above the Momo logo, representing the sun on the Philippine flag; three yellow-colored hexagon Allen head screws, powder-coated, symbolizing the flag’s three stars; tricolor stitching—blue, red, and white—mirroring the hues of the national flag; and the word “Mabuhay,” embroidered on the leather grip. The inclusion of a yellow horn button, traditionally seen only on Ferrari-spec Momo wheels, adds to the uniqueness of this release.

The design was conceptualized by Jaykee Evangelista of Groundworks Design, a Filipino artist known internationally for blending automotive culture with creative storytelling. His portfolio includes collaborations with Lamborghini Philippines, Mazda Philippines, Porsche Middle East, Hyundai’s N division, and Red Bull’s VCARB F1 Saudi GP art poster. Evangelista describes Mabuhay as “a message of life and positivity,” reflecting the hopeful spirit of the Filipino people.

Only 252 units were made of the steering wheel, which is based on Momo’s Montecarlo model, and each is individually numbered. According to Momo, all the units were sold out just a few days following the announcement. 

Special guests from the local racing and custom car scenes attended the launch event, including celebrity drivers Gaby Dela Merced and Marlon Stockinger, and tuning experts Atoy Llave of Atoy Customs and Sam Liuson of Wheel Gallery, one of the official distributors of Momo wheels in the Philippines.
