Audrey Hepburn's Son Says These Hollywood Actresses Remind Him of His Mother

Audrey Hepburn never made it to the Philippines, but the actress heard about the country from a Filipino friend. Hepburn’s son, Sean Ferrer, says his mother was told that Filipinos adored her, and so he feels it was too bad that she never met any of her Filipino fans.
It was Ferrer, Hepburn’s son with ex-husband Mel Ferrer, was in the country to open “Intimate Audrey,” an exhibit that allows fans a glimpse into the life and times of the movie star. Located at the S Maison Mall, “Intimate Audrey” features stunning and candid photographs of Hepburn, her family, and her famous movie star friends. Many of the photographs have never been seen publicly before.

The exhibit made it to Manila thanks to the efforts of Carmina Sanchez-Jacob, an entrepreneur who heads a fashion and trade licensing company, who first saw the exhibit in Amsterdam. Ferrer, who is now in his 60s, has been caretaker of his mother’s legacy since she passed away in 1993. Today he uses the traveling exhibit to raise money for UNICEF and the charities that his mother supported during her time as a humanitarian.

Through photographs, letters, recordings, and film stock, the exhibit takes viewers throughout Hepburn’s life—from her early days in Belgium to her time in Hollywood, her work with children’s charities that took her all over the world, to her quiet days in her home in Switzerland, where she moved later in her life. There are also exhibits of some of the dresses and gowns that she wore, a Vespa similar to the iconic one she rode with Gregory Peck in the classic film Roman Holiday, as well as a special curated display of outfits from Filipino designers inspired by the iconic dresses she wore throughout her career.
During a short chat with Esquire Philippines, Ferrer said that there are a couple of active Hollywood celebrities whose overall look and demeanor reminds him of his mother. One of them is Natalie Portman.
“We’ve had a children's charity different forms of them for 30 years,” he says. “And when I had the charity in America, I had a kid's board. Natalie Portman was only 12 years old when she came on board. So I've known since that she has that quality without a doubt.”
Ferrer thinks that actress Lily Collins, the daughter of Genesis drummer Phil Collins has that “special quality.”
“She has that kind of freshness, kind of like a flower opening up onscreen,” he says.
Ferrer also talked about the actresses that his mother adored.
“My mother loved Meryl Streep. She loved Michelle Pfeiffer. She looked at those actresses because she felt that they, they all had something special, something unique.”

And if there’s one thing you shouldn’t miss at the “Intimate Audrey” exhibit, it’s the video where her friends all talk about her.
“My father cries in the video,” Ferrer says. “To me it has a special meaning.”
The Intimate Audrey exhibit is now open at the ground floor of S Maison Mall. Regular tickets are priced at ?850, with a special concession of P450 for students, senior citizens, PWDs, national athletes and medal of valor awardees.
