Charlie Cojuangco Betrothed to Partner in Intimate Ceremony in Tarlac

Carlos “Charlie” Cojuangco got betrothed to his partner China Jocson in an intimate ceremony in Tarlac earlier today (December 29). The private event was witnessed only by a small number of the couple's close family and friends. 

A few mayors of the province also bore witness to the rites, according to an Esquire Philippines source who was present at the event. Cojuangco is currently serving his second term as Representative of the first district of Tarlac.

What is a betrothal?

According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, a betrothal is a Catholic church engagement and morally binding contract that commits a couple to a marriage. It’s essentially a promise to marry at a future date.

Cojuangco, who is the youngest son of the late tycoon Eduardio “Danding” Cojuangco, was married to actress and TV host Rio Diaz from 1994 until her untimely passing in 2004.

In an interview with Esquire Philippines earlier this year, the 57-year-old Cojuangco said he was in a relationship with Jocson, a crisis management strategist with roots in Tarlac and Pampanga who spent time in Malacañang as a former assistant Presidential spokesperson. Cojuangco said he had been single since 2018.

An actual wedding date has reportedly been set for next year although no details have yet been revealed.
