A Lego Optimus Prime That Actually Transforms Is Actually What We Want

Anyone who ever grew up watching the original run of the Transformers cartoons back in the 80s would understand the obsession about getting those toys and actually getting to play with them. 

It didn’t matter actually matter whether they were Autoboots or Decepticons, although, in truth, most of us probably wanted the big one: an actual, honest-to-goodness Optimus Prime, the wise leader of the Autobots that transformed into a truck. Any kid who had one immediately became the most popular kid in school and in the neighborhood.

Now Hasbro Inc., which produced the animated TV series and manufactures the toys partnered with global leader Lego to make many kids and kids-at-heart’s dreams come true: a Lego Optimus Prime that transforms into a truck.

The Transformers Optimus Prime set has over 1,500 detailed pieces and stands over 35 centimeters once assembled in robot mode. But players can transform Optimus into truck mode and he’ll stand 15 centimeters. According to a news release, this is one of the first times a Lego set has been able to convert between two models, without the need to rebuild. 

The set comes with a display plaque which players can opt to display after they finish building the model.

“It has been an honor and joy to work together with Hasbro to develop a LEGO version of OptimusPrime!” says senior designer at the LEGO Group, Joseph Patrick Kyde. “I am excited to see these two toy companies come together for the first time to celebrate the leader of the Autobots.

“Optimus Prime has become a pop culture symbol of courage, selflessness, and great leadership as well as an awesome toy that embodies the problem- solving and creativity skills that both companies value so much,” he adds.

“We’re excited to bring two of the world’s greatest play and entertainment companies together to celebrate this larger-than-life, iconic character—Optimus Prime,” Casey Collins, head of licensed consumer products and business development at Hasbro says. “We know fans everywhere will be thrilled by this collaboration as it enables fans and families of all ages to create memories as they work together to build the LEGO Transformers Optimus Prime.”

The Lego Transformers Optimus Prime set is now available in all leading toy stores and at LEGO certified stores (BGC, Alabang Town Center, TriNoma, The 30th, UP Town Center) at a suggested retail price of P10,999.
