Why Is the Internet So Obsessed About Bondee?

We're seeing the slow, slow demise of our favorite social media apps, and it's not looking pretty. Facebook hasn't been interesting in years, but yeah, our family and work colleagues are there so we keep it around. Instagram is alright, but it plateaued after its TikTokification (the introduction of Reels) and hasn't been the same since TikTok boomed. Twitter is as funny as ever, apart from the fact that Elon Musk is still running the damned thing. Discord is great, too, which is why professors use it in college. 

But it looks like the internet has a new obsession. It's this little thing called Bondee. This is a meta-universe social platform where our avatars are set in their own little worlds with their own little outfits inside their own little rooms, where we can interact with our Bondee friends. Of course, we need another app to drown out our fatigue from all the other apps these days. For the record, Bondee does look fun, and it's not just a Gen Z thing either. We actually get the appeal.

So What the Hell Is Bondee?

Recently launched by Singapore-based tech startup Metadream, Bondee is just like any other social platform. The biggest difference is that it's a meta-universe social networking app that gives us the full 3D virtual experience. We get avatars, and can customize our spaces to our (and our friends') liking. It sort of feels like if The Sims and the Metaverse had a baby.

How Do I Use It?

It's pretty straightforward. After signing up, we're asked to choose a set of outfits, accessories, and hairstyle. Basically, this is when we decide our look and vibe. Our avatars then get their own space, a corner in the Bondee meta-universe that's solely ours. We can design and edit as we go along. As for our status, we can find that on the home page, next to our avatars. That, too, is customizable.

As for the socializing part, we can put our QR codes out there and wait for our friends to hit us up. Some of us might have already seen a few QR codes or two pop up on our timelines from time to time. That's it. Meanwhile, if we want to find out how our Bondee friends are doing, we can simply head straight to our Friends' Posts tab. We can chat, exchange messages, and visit rooms. The interactions can feel a little limited, but overall it's...nice.

Interestingly, the "floating" feature allows our avatars to go to uncharted territory in this strange 3D world. We can leave our messages in bottles and whatnot for the Bondee universe to open and read. This is how we can meet other users outside our circles and even win goodies along the way.
