Modern life demands that the most up to date technology also fits conveniently into our pocket or rucksack without too much bother.

As phones slim down and cram more and more power into less and less space, computers too are scaling downward but maintaining the quality customers demand.

These five models won't compromise on speed, battery life, display, or aesthetic but will leave you walking round feeling much lighter.

Huawei Matebook X

Huawei's flagship new device wastes no space at all with it's 13-inch screen and full-width keyboard, packed into a package that's as light as an envelope. It is the first PC to feature speakers co-designed with Dolby, so you get Dolby Atmos immersive sound. There's an Intel Core i5 processor, 256GB of fast storage, 8GB of RAM and a battery that will genuinely take a day's worth of constant use. Available in three colors, space grey, rose gold, and prestige gold.

Dell XPS 13

The smallest 13-inch laptop on the market boasts an apparently borderless InfinityEdge display. With a 5.2mm bezel and measuring just 9mm at its end point, the XPS 13 is exceptionally skinny and light, even though the keyboard feels more substantial and solid than its competitors. It's powerful, too: the eye-watering display comes courtesy of Intel's 7th generation processors. One of the best laptops around, and one of the best-looking.

Add in 20 percent faster performance with three spanking new Intel processors, and up to 50 per cent faster SSD storage and it's not hard to see why Apple's devotees remain so faithful.
