'What the F**k Is X': The Funniest Filipino Reactions to Twitter's Rebranding

Everyone is saying it looks like a site for adult entertainment. Oh well.

In addition to several radical policy changes made in the last couple of weeks, Twitter—or rather, X—recently launched a new logo to cement its rebranding. The iconic blue bird was officially replaced by a white X on a black background on Monday, July 31, 2023.

Founded in 2006, the social networking app takes its name from the sound of birds chattering, chosen for its likeness to how phones vibrate when a notification is received. Under Elon Musk’s new reign, it is being transformed into an accelerant for ‘X’, an ‘everything app’ centered on commerce and unlimited interactivity (whatever that means), with features such as audio, video, messaging, and even payments/banking.

Getting rid of the universally recognized icon sure sounds like a risky move, especially since advertisers have been fleeing due to the surge of harmful content on the platform. But Musk’s mind works in mysterious ways.

Mike Proulx, research director at the analysis firm Forrester, said, “By changing Twitter’s app name, Elon Musk will have singlehandedly wiped out over 15 years of a brand name that has secured its place in our cultural lexicon.” 

Nevertheless, it looks like X is here to stay. Users, however, are finding it quite difficult to adjust to the new look. Here’s how Filipinos have responded to the change:
