Shoppers Leave Disgusting Used Gloves in Alabang Supermarket

As COVID-19 cases continue to increase, it pays to be a germaphobe. But learn not only how to protect yourself but how to dispose of items like gloves properly. For starters, you should never leave used gloves on the floor or anywhere just because you can’t find a trash can.

On Facebook, Alabang Bulletin shared these photos that showed the parking lot of a supermarket strewn with used gloves.

The caption read: “PLEASE POST. Very disappointing grocery shoppers in Landmark Festival. The parking lot was turned to a huge trash can of used gloves!!!”

Alabang Bulletin added, “Come on, guys. We can do better than this.”

Gloves may offer protection, but when you do not dispose of it properly, you are also exposing people (anyone who will pick it up to clean your litter) to the risk of contracting diseases it may harbor like COVD-19. 

Robert Amler, M.D., the vice president for government affairs at New York Medical College and former chief medical officer at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the U.S., explained to Good Housekeeping: “People often don’t understand that a glove could transfer germs to any and all surfaces they touch.”

If you wore your gloves and touched any surface before entering a store, you are potentially spreading germs unless you are 100% sure all the surfaces you touched are disinfected. In fact, the better option than wearing gloves: Wash your hands with soap or use a hand sanitizer after shopping.

Perhaps the parking lot needed more trash cans. But they are your gloves, so your responsibility to dispose of such items properly, especially when we have a pandemic. It is called courtesy and the most neighborly thing you can do.
