El Nido's Not-So-Secret Secret Lagoon Is the Fifth Best Beach in the World

Palawan is used to being in the spotlight. It’s been named one of the world’s best islands and beach destinations almost every year—and 2021 is no exception. Big 7 Travel has just named El Nido’s Secret Lagoon the fifth best beach in the world.
Big 7’s 50 “Best Beaches in the World” list includes locations from the powder-white sands of Mauritius to the rugged and remote beaches of Scotland, but it was El Nido’s prized (and not-so-secret) Secret Lagoon that bagged the fifth spot on the list.
The travel site described Secret Lagoon as feeling “untouched” with its white sandy beaches and tropical jungle.
“Swim through a hole in the limestone rocks to enter a hidden bay with crystal clear water and soft sand,” described Big 7.
Only four other beaches beat the Philippines’ Secret Lagoon, namely the arctic Vaeroy Beach of Norway (#1), the silica sands of Whitehaven Beach in Australia (#2), the popular Fig Tree Bay of Cyprus (#3), and the pristine beaches of Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos (#4).
El Nido’s Secret Lagoon beat lower-ranking beaches on the list such as those in Seychelles, Maldives, Bahamas, and even Hawaii.
