LOOK: Howl's Moving Castle Is Brought to Life in Studio Ghibli's Theme Park
Some kids might dream of Cinderella's fairytale castle or the Avengers headquarters. Others dreamt of the most fantastical creation of all: Howl's Moving Castle. For all the kids who fell in love with Howl, Sophie, and Calcipher, get ready for the Studio Ghibli theme park in Japan to bring the much adored, quirky, steampunk moving machine to life.
Howl's Moving Castle will be located in the "Witch Valley," one of the theme park's five "zones." But there's a catch: It won't actually move like how it did in the movie. That kind of technology doesn't exist yet, but at least we can dream.
The replica of Howl's Moving Castle will be around four- to five-storeys tall, complete with animated cannons, castle gardens, and of course, the wizard's chaotic quarters.
Other park zones to get excited about? The Princess Mononoke region; the Youth Hill region with features from Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns; the Ghibli Warehouse; and of course, the Dondokomori zone where Totoro will be waiting for you.
Dondokomori, Youth Hill, and Ghibli Warehouse will all be open by 2022. Meanwhile, Witch Valley and Princess Mononoke will open in 2023.
That seems like a long time away, but it's not like we'll be as old as Sophie by the time it opens.
The Studio Ghibli Theme Park is located in Nagakute City, Aichi Prefecture.
