The Philippine Pavilion at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan, has drawn more than 40,000 visitors in the first nine days of being unveiled, as the Philippine government continues to promote traditional Filipino craftsmanship, culture, and ingenuity to a global audience.
In a statement, the Department of Tourism (DoT) noted that the pavilion, which boasts a facade made from 212 handwoven fabrics from around the nation, caught the attention of of Qatar Museums Chairperson Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who admired its vibrant and engaging method of storytelling in connection with Philippine culture. The exhibit had piqued her interest after hearing quite a number of glowing reviews and her “deep connection” to the estimated 260,000 Filipinos in Qatar, according to the agency.
“The remarkable turnout of 40,252 visitors in just nine days is a resounding affirmation of the strength of our story, the power of our people, and the beauty of our culture,” Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said.
"It is a movement of culture, connection, and creativity that brings the Philippines to the world stage in a way we have never seen before," she added.
The presentation also brings a multisensory installation called “Dancing with Nature” that involves an amalgamation of light, sound, and motion portraying the elements of the natural wonders visitors can see if they travel to the Philippines. It also features daily live performances by artists from the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
Its official theme of “Nature, Culture & Community: Woven Together for a Better Future” showcases tech-powered storytelling to convey Filipino ingenuity to those who manage to nab tickets.
Expo 2025 in Osaka, located in Japan’s Kansai region, is a collaboration between Japan’s national government and Osaka’s local government that focuses on the promotion of the cultures of the world through sustainable means.
The event runs from April 13 to October 13 this year on the island of reclaimed land of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay.

The Philippine Pavilion was designed by Carlo Calma Consultancy with a design ethic anchored on the two fundamental elements of warp and weft from weaving, which are responsible for turning fabric threads and yarn into textiles and ornamental fabrics. The project is also a collaboration with the Japanese firm Mikan.
Local artisans built the structure with over a thousand rattan threads and the 212 handwoven panels ,with the aim of promoting the rich biodiversity present in the archipelago.
The pavilion, which is 12 meters high and covers 693.86 square meters, scales up the art of Filipino weaving to a feat of architecture that blends tradition and culture into the modern world.
“This pavilion is our initiation to the world to feel the warmth of our hospitality, to be awed by the wonder of our islands, and to connect with the soul of our people,” the Philippine Tourism chief said.
“We welcome everyone to experience why there is every reason to Love the Philippines.”
