'I Was on Mushrooms,' Says 'Dope Francis' Creator
Over the weekend, images depicting Pope Francis wearing oversize puffer coats and high tops went viral. Many people thought the images were real, with some praising the Pope’s high fashion sense, while others criticizing the Pontiff for being too extravagant with his choice of clothes.
But the artist behind the viral images never expected that his images would go viral. In an exclusive interview with Esquire Philippines, U.S.-based graphic artist Guerrero Art revealed why and how he made the images.
“I use AI-generated art. I love making random fashion series and psychedelic series on my Instagram,” Guerrero Art told Esquire.
“But I was on mushrooms,” they added.
“After I came down from the peak, I started playing around with old ideas and for some reason, I just thought of the Pope. I don’t know why but the mushroom trip took me to the Pope.”
Guerrero Art says there is really no message behind the images he generated with MidJourney.
“I did it to be funny and didn’t expect it to go viral. I don’t think any of the AI artists expect to go viral,” Guerrero Art told Esquire Philippines. You can view more of Guerrero Art’s AI-generated artworks on their Instagram.
